Sanguinary Guard has Landed

Finished painting these guys yesterday afternoon, right down to the wire.
I went with a red lightning effect on the swords instead of purple to keep the color palette tight. Instead of black wings, I did metallic silver - I think it goes well together with the gold.
Speaking of which, the gold was an ordeal to paint - I did a layer of silver first, then put 2 or 3 light layers of antique gold on top. It took a long while. Also, I got in some good practice with blacklining and the linework on the scrolls.
I'm especially happy with the marble effect on the shoulder pads--I need to get some pictures up that show em off.
Anyways, the golden boys are entered in the BoLS / BFG painting competition. As expected, there is some stiff competition -- wish me luck!

BoLS Painting Challenge, Blood Angels

On Wednesday, http://www.belloflostsouls.net/ announced a painting challenge for the new Blood Angels plastic sets. Paint either a Baal Pred, Sanguinary Guard, or Death Company and win all three boxed sets. Pretty awesome.
I had started on the Baal predator, but I'm not happy with the way the painting is going. It looks good on the table, but I don't think it catch enough eyes to win the competition.
So, I'm painting my Sanguinary Guard. At present they are sitting on my painting table in fantastic "black primer".
Overall color scheme will look similar to GW's - gold armor with white wings. I could do black wings to mix it up, but I think white wings would look more striking. The power weapons will be done with a purple electricity effect.
I'll get some pictures up as painting progresses - next step is to cover the model (minus wings and weapon) in Mithril Silver.

Team Tournament, Resolution

Welp, the tournament has come and gone. We didn't place, but we did have a great time and learned a few tricks.
Adam decided on 1500 points of Dark Eldar - 6 raiders with witch squads, a ravager, a witch archite, and lots and lots of dark lances / blasters. I had a librarian, 3 Baal Preds, 2 Autocannon Preds, 1 Vindicator, 4 Razorbacks (2 twin-assault cannons) with 4 assault squads.

Overall, we didn't use speed to our advantage. All of my vehicles could scoot 18" without shooting, Adam's could zoom 24". The last game we played against a very well balanced Ultramarines / Ork army with, among other things, a strong gun line. Zooming up one side of the board as fast as possible would have changed things immensely.

Anyway, we learned a few things, most importantly when you're playing with aggressive armies, you'd better play aggressively.
